pre-school children home alone without adult's
company. When children play around in the neighborhood,
make sure that they're supervised by caregivers.Statistics

Teach children to be alert to phone calls or
visits from unknown persons when they are home
alone. Do not let the strangers into the house.
Leave by the home phones the emergency numbers
like 110, your office numbers, and numbers of
your relatives, friends as well as neighbors.
Leave your own home addresses too so that children
may be able to ask for help in case of emergency.
Public Places
- Pre-school
children
No matter how the situation is, never leave
pre-school children in the car or in front of
the stores waiting. It is very possible they
may get lost or be taken away. When staying at
public places, do not let children wander around
by themselves, or get out of your sight.
- School
children
Teach children to be alert to strangers and
develop their ability to handle unexpected situation
or emergency. For example, do not accept invitation
or gifts from strangers; tell parents their
whereabouts when going out; and avoid improper
places, such as video arcade. Do not let children
hang around outside after school, not even on
campus. Try to return home along with schoolmates.
Avoid dark streets, deserted places, construction
sites, underpasses, or any places without people
around. It would be safer to take routes where
many people live.

- Pre-school
children
Make sure your children get on or off the school
bus before you leave them. Parents should keep
in touch with childcare givers or teachers of
their children and make sure the exact schedule
for picking up. Remind teachers that no one
is allowed to pick up your children except yourself
or the specific person requested by you.
- School
children
In order to prevent children from being the
targets of kidnapping, parents should try as
much as possible not to be late for picking
up children at schools. In case you are really
unable to pick them up, make sure that the teachers
and children are properly informed. Then, ask
other family members or relatives to help pick
up your children. You may want to develop a
specific way of communication with your children,
such as giving passwords, so that they will
be able to distinguish when strangers approach.
